ABOUT THE AUTHOR

From as far back as he can remember Benjamin Berkley was always fascinated by law. Growing up in Long Beach, New York his daily schedule revolved around grainy black and white reruns of Perry Mason, who with the help of Della Street, solved the most complicated of crimes imaginable – wining cases for their all but convicted clients. So it was no surprise to his family and friends that upon High School graduation, young Ben Berkley chose law as his career path.

After years of intense study Benjamin Berkley earned his Juris Doctorate degree from Western State University. He has practiced law for nearly thirty-years, specializing in Estate Planning and Estate Administration. Mr. Berkley also serves as a panel referral attorney for the nation’s largest pre-paid legal programs including: ARAG Legal, Hyatt Legal, and GE Consumer Signature Legal and is a network attorney for AARP members. He regularly conducts seminars on Estate Planning and has become an advocate for senior rights.

In addition to being admitted to the State Bar of California and the United States Supreme Court, he is also licensed by the State of California and the Department of Justice as a Private Fiduciary for court appointments as a Conservator and Trustee of Estates.

Mr. Berkley always enjoyed writing but never seemed to have the time to pen the book he wanted to write. His days were filled with building his law practice and spending time with his wife and two children. It wasn’t until Ben’s uncle became ill that he realized how important it was for him to write ‘MY WISHES’.

When his uncle became ill, Ben took time away from his law practice and family to be with him. He made over 25 trips from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to spend time with his sick uncle and tend to his needs. Ben took care of everything. He did the grocery shopping, made doctor appointments, arranged for home health care, paid his bills and made all the arrangements necessary to assure his uncle’s comfort in his last days.

What Ben found while caring for his uncle, was that he – like most of Ben’s clients, have many very specific wishes that they would like to see carried out when they were no longer with us. The common challenge they all faced was they did not know how to go about expressing themselves other than the monetary decisions the made in their Wills. This issue was central to the book Ben wanted to author for so many years – and all the motivation he needed to put pen to paper and write ‘MY WISHES’.

His next book, “Stepping into Their Shoes, An Executor’s Handbook” will be published in 2007 by Sourcebooks.

Ben lives with his wife of over 32 years and their two children in southern California.
